Wishwood Glamping & Forestry · Canterbury, Kent

An escape from the rat run.

Sixteen acres of ancient Kent woodland. Four camps — a solar yurt, a woodland lodge, a vintage caravan, a hobbit hut. Off-grid by design. Wood-burner in every unit. Fire pit at every door. The bluebells in spring, the log smoke in autumn.

Who we are

Chrissy.
Kent woodland keeper.

Chrissy's been running Wishwood for nine years. What started as a single hobbit hut in 16 acres is now four camps, 779 reviews, and a slow-grown reputation in slow travel.

Off-grid isn't a gimmick. There's no mains water, no mains power, no hot tubs. Wifi is there if you need it at Fern Lodge and The Hobbit; the Yurt and Thistle Caravan lean fully off-grid. There's a fire pit, a wood-burner, an outdoor kitchen, and 16 acres of ancient woodland 10 minutes from Herne Bay and 20 from Whitstable.

Common questions

Before you book.

Is it really off-grid? How does that work day-to-day?

Solar powers low-draw lights. Wood-burner heats the cabin and the water (with the gas backup for the shower). Composting loos. Gas hob in the outdoor kitchen for cooking. You're not roughing it — you've just stepped out of the grid for a few days.

Can we bring a dog?

Sorry, no dogs — Wishwood sits in protected semi-ancient woodland, so we keep it dog-free to look after the wildlife and the bluebells. Thank you for understanding.

Wifi? Phone signal?

Wifi is available at Fern Lodge and The Hobbit; the Yurt and Thistle Caravan lean fully off-grid. Phone signal is patchy (decent for EE, less for O2). If you want to be unreachable for 48 hours, it's perfect.

What's included? What should we bring?

We provide: bedding, towels, kitchen kit, gas cylinder, one log net, kindling and firelighters, candles, basic cleaning kit. Bring: warm clothes (even in summer evenings), torches, food, drinks. Extra log nets £5 if you go through one.

What's the cancellation policy?

Full refund up to 14 days before check-in. Inside 14 days: 50% refund + we try to re-let; if we re-let, full refund. Life happens — message us.
